“I grew up with my legendary dad and mom within the Chelsea brownstone that had ‘Torn Page’ because the nameplate on our buzzer,” says Angelica Page. Today, the 54-year-old actress daughter of Rip Torn and the late Geraldine Page bounces between Midtown and Los Angeles. Page, presently starring in off-Broadway’s “As a result of I May Not Cease: An Encounter with Emily Dickinson,” tells BARBARA HOFFMAN about the place she spends her best weekends within the metropolis.

My favourite weekends in New York are when my husband [TV writer/producer Dmitry Lipkin] is on the town. We wish to have an early brunch at Buvette on Grove Road. Buvette is among the most charming eating places. It has an old-school, West Village ambiance and there’s normally fairly a wait. The meals is divine. My fave dish is smooth scrambled eggs with black caviar.

I wish to spa after my week of performances, and have a tendency to go to the East Village and’ the Russian & Turkish Baths. There’s one thing referred to as a platza, the place you’re within the hottest room there and also you rent somebody to beat you with oak leaves. Alex has been beating me for 11 years. Once I introduced Dmitry with me, [co-owner] Boris stated, “He’s not Russian. Why doesn’t he have an accent?” So Dmitry, who’s from Moscow, defined, in fluent Russian, that he grew up within the States.

If my daughter, Tana, is engaged on a Saturday — she’s a colorist at this wonderful salon, Sam Brocato, on Wooster Road — I’ll have her shade my hair. I’ll be her final appointment, then we’ll exit collectively, perhaps with our husbands. Our favourite restaurant is abcV, Jean-Georges’ spectacular vegan restaurant in ABC Carpet & Dwelling.

My mother used to take me to the Palm Court docket at the Plaza Lodge for Sunday brunch. She cherished to take me to locations like that, which was very totally different from our residence life, which was very modest. If I had a foul breakup with a boyfriend, she’d inform me to take the day without work from faculty and we’d have vodka at the Russian Tea Room. However our favourite place was the Plaza, and it needed to have had one thing to do with Eloise. My mother used to steal rolls [there]. I used to be embarrassed and requested her why. She stated, “It jogs my memory of my youth.” When she first got here to New York, she’d stroll miles to save lots of 15 cents, so she may purchase soup with limitless rolls. That’s what she lived off, these rolls she tucked away in her purse.
