Nigerians, together with comic Basket Mouth, have reacted after it emerged that a girl was awarded $21 million after she was fired for refusing to work on Sundays for spiritual causes.
60-year-old Marie Jean Pierre, a former dishwasher on the Conrad Miami Hotel, labored with the institution for greater than 10 years. However she was fired in March 2016 as a result of she missed work for six Sundays to attend Bethel Baptist Church in Miami.
Pierre, a religious Christian missionary born in Haiti, stated that she had knowledgeable her employer when she was employed that she couldn’t work on Sundays due to her spiritual beliefs. When she was then assigned to work on Sunday, she skipped work and went to church. After lacking work for six Sundays, her employment was terminated.

Pierre sued her former firm for terminating her employment. Her lawsuit argued that her former employer had violated the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which protects staff from discrimination on the idea of race, faith, intercourse or nationwide origin.
A jury in federal court docket dominated in her favor on Monday, granting her $21 million in damages, plus $35,000 in again wages and $500,000 for emotional ache and psychological anguish.
