When Diane von Furstenberg first met glitter-loving artist Ashley Longshore over tea in London, to debate a collaboration for Worldwide Ladies’s Month, the designer admits she was bowled over by Longshore’s boldness.
“She’s a bit bit over the high, but it surely’s her,” DVF tells Threads. “And she or he owns it and I like that. She could be very a lot what I preach: Be the girl you wish to be.”
In a mere two weeks, Longshore painted a whopping 37 portraits of remarkable ladies who’ve impressed von Furstenberg. (The designer’s solely request was that Longshore skip her well-known sparkly elaborations, so the topics might dazzle on their very own.)
The works can be displayed at the DVF Meatpacking retailer by way of Might. Longshore, who has proven her Instagram-famous work at Bergdorf Goodman and whose celeb collectors embrace Blake Full of life, says it was “a dream” to work with von Furstenberg.
As for her subsequent dream gig? “It’s been on my aim checklist for about 20 years to do a collaboration with Louis Vuitton,” says Longshore, who owns roughly 15 LV special-edition luggage, together with two from the coveted Jeff Koons collab.
“If I can afford it … I f–king purchase it,” she says. “That’s the wonderful thing about being a contemporary girl.”
