Kano State Police Command Captures Individual Involved in Scheme with Two Armed Robbers to Assault Acquaintance, Steal N2.9m
The Kano State Police Command recently apprehended a 25-year-old man, Sunusi Yusuf, who allegedly collaborated with two armed robbers in an elaborate plan to rob his acquaintance, Nura Ibrahim.
Acting on their investigation, the Kano State Police Command successfully apprehended Yusuf, along with the two suspected robbers, Nasiru Ibrahim and Sunusi Abubakar, in Garko Local Government Area of the state.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the command, stated on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 that the suspects ambushed the victim while he was en route to board a vehicle for a business trip to Kaduna, ultimately making off with his substantial sum of N2.9m.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Yusuf, the prime suspect, confessed to being friends with the victim and being involved in the same line of business. Aware of his friend’s possession of a significant amount of cash, Yusuf conspired with the two armed robbers to execute the attack, utilizing clubs to inflict harm and successfully steal the money.
“On 06/10/2023 at about 1600hrs, a report was received from one Nura Ibrahim, ‘m’ of Kankiya Village, Garko LGA, Kano that while on his way to Kaduna for his business, he was ambushed and attacked on his way at Garko LGA when trekking from his residence to the main road and was robbed the sum of Two Million Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,900,000:00) leaving him with inflicted injuries on his head,” the statement read.
Upon receiving the report, the victim was promptly taken to Garko Hospital for medical attention. A team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Garko Division was swiftly dispatched to the scene. Through intelligence-driven operations, one suspect, Sunusi Yusuf, aged 25 and residing at the same address as the victim, was apprehended.
A discreet investigation carried out at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led to the subsequent arrest of the remaining suspects; Sunusi Abubakar, aged 21, and Nasiru Ibrahim, aged 22, both residing at various addresses. Sunusi Yusuf confessed to being friends with the victim and engaging in the same business venture.
“Having known that the friend had a large sum of money in his possession, conspired with two Armed Robbers, attacked him with clubs and robbed the money. The sum of Six Hundred and Eleven Thousand Naira (N611,000:00) and six (6) empty shells of AK-47 Rifle were recovered from them. The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement added.
