On the morning of September 25, an overhead bridge located at the New Artisan Market area in Enugu State’s capital city collapsed. This incident took place while a fully loaded truck and an unidentified lorry were positioned on the bridge.
Videos circulating on the internet provide a visual account of the extensive damage caused by the collapse.
In an official statement signed by the State’s Commissioner for Works, Engr. Gerald Otiji, the public was advised to use alternative routes. The statement explained: “The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure wishes to inform the general public of the bridge collapse that occurred on September 25, 2023, along Kilometer One of the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway, specifically between Naira Triangle and Goshen Flyover. Road users are advised to temporarily redirect their routes via Nza through New Haven or Ogui Road to reach their respective destinations, while authorities are devising immediate repair measures for the affected section.”
