The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 25, 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, firmly denies issuing a statement congratulating President Bola Tinubu on the outcome of the election petition tribunal in Abuja. This statement, allegedly attributed to Atiku, is fake and part of a deliberate scheme to seek validation for the wrongful seizure of Nigerians’ mandate.
According to Mr. Paul Ibe, the Media Adviser to the former Vice President, endorsing electoral banditry would be a betrayal of Nigerians who have tirelessly fought to establish electoral integrity. He emphasizes that resorting to fake news and manipulating political opponents into congratulating them is unnecessary if those responsible are truly convinced of their victory.
“Why should one be so desperate for validation? Shouldn’t truth speak for itself? And why would you attribute a congratulatory statement to Atiku when your conscience isn’t troubled by the electoral heist you’ve committed,” Ibe questions.
Contrary to the false information spread by Tinubu propagandists, Atiku has already instructed his lawyers to challenge the judgment of the election petition tribunal at the Supreme Court. This confirms that the alleged message is indeed fabricated and lacks substance. Moreover, addressing Tinubu as “President-elect” five months after his inauguration is both absurd and laughable.
Ibe further emphasizes that this struggle is not solely about Atiku; it concerns Nigeria and the future of democracy. Allowing election riggers to go unpunished poses a significant threat to our democratic system. The consent of the people is vital to upholding the democratic mandate, and ruling against their will undermines the very essence of democracy.
Furthermore, Ibe clarifies that Atiku holds no personal grudge against President Tinubu and harbors no ill will towards him. The Waziri’s participation in this struggle is driven by principles and the pursuit of justice. He remains committed to actively contributing to the strengthening of democracy in our country.
