In a tragic incident that took place on October 11, 2023, bandits in Kidandan village, located in the Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killed a villager who had bravely volunteered to deliver a ransom in exchange for the release of a captive. The deceased, Abdullahi Haruna, was a member of the First Aid of Fitiyanul Islam. The incident occurred at around 2:00 p.m. at Sabo Layi Kidandan.
A vigilante member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the unfortunate event to Daily Trust on October 12. According to a community youth leader known as Jamil, the bandits had demanded a ransom, and Abdullahi Haruna had selflessly offered to deliver the money to them. However, after collecting the ransom, the bandits attempted to force him off his motorcycle, and when he resisted, they shot him in front of witnesses. This incident highlights the growing issue of banditry and kidnapping in the region, with Sabon Layi village being a notorious hub for ransom collection.
