The trainer of British boxer Chris Eubank Jr. has been charged with firearm possession following the discovery of a gun in his suitcase at Manchester Airport. The incident unfolded with dramatic scenes at Manchester Airport on Sunday morning, September 3.
The alarm was raised when airport security scans of the checked baggage allegedly revealed the presence of the firearm. Police officers, armed themselves, police officers swiftly descended on Terminal 2’s departure lounge and apprehended 53-year-old Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre, who was scheduled to fly to Atlanta, on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
McIntyre, a former American boxer, had recently overseen Eubank Jr.’s comprehensive victory over Liam Smith in their middleweight rematch in the city the night before.

Notably, it is believed that the firearm was not concealed well within the checked suitcase.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police reported, “At around 10:45 am on Sunday, September 3, 2023, officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport. After initial inspection by security staff, GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized. Subsequently, a 53-year-old man was arrested for possession of a firearm and was taken into custody for further questioning.”
Brian McIntyre, born on July 1, 1970, in the United States, was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate. He appeared in Stockport Magistrates Court and was further remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, October 9, 2023, at Manchester Crown Court.
The investigation will focus on how the firearm ended up in the suitcase.
McIntyre is highly regarded as one of the top trainers in the sport, having orchestrated some of Eubank’s best performances. He has also worked with other notable fighters, including former super-featherweight champion Jamel Herring, Amir Khan for his fight against Kell Brook, and US star Terence Crawford.
