In an unfortunate incident that took place on Sunday, a commercial bus driver was arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for stabbing a LASTMA officer. The driver had been apprehended for causing serious traffic obstruction in the Costain area of Lagos.

According to a statement released by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs at LASTMA, the driver, whose name remains undisclosed, had been picking up passengers on the main expressway, leading to significant traffic disruptions for other road users in the Costain area towards Iponrin in Lagos.

In an attempt to evade arrest, the driver resorted to dangerous driving maneuvers, but eventually pulled out a knife and stabbed the officer. After inflicting a deep cut, he proceeded to strip himself naked and create further commotion before being apprehended by the police from the Iponri Police Station.
During the arrest, security officers discovered dangerous weapons, including a cutlass and a knife, inside the driver’s commercial Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus.
The government has confirmed that the arrested driver will be promptly prosecuted to set an example and deter other drivers from engaging in similar recalcitrant behavior.
