Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, recently expressed his concern over the possibility of his billionaire son being targeted for assassination. His worries stem from a controversial article in The New Yorker that delved into Elon Musk’s influence on government decisions, particularly regarding the war in Ukraine.
According to Pentagon officials cited in The New Yorker, Elon Musk was treated as an “unelected official,” raising concerns about his stance towards Vladimir Putin. The article also highlighted the significant role played by SpaceX’s Starlink satellites in the Ukrainian conflict.
Errol Musk, aged 77, described the article as a “hit job” and accused it of being sponsored by a shadow government as an opening salvo against Elon. When asked by a reporter if he feared that the “shadow government” could assassinate his son, Errol expressed his apprehension with a simple “yes.”
It is worth noting that Elon Musk and his father have a strained relationship, with Elon previously referring to him as a “terrible human being.” Errol Musk further characterized The New Yorker article as a preparatory attack before an actual assault.
In a previous incident, Elon Musk made a jest in May last year, suggesting that he might “die under mysterious circumstances” after a disagreement with Russia’s space chief regarding SpaceX’s provision of Starlink terminals to Ukrainian soldiers.
Reports have also emerged of heightened security measures around Elon Musk. An X engineer disclosed that he was accompanied by two bodyguards, even to the bathroom, while at the company headquarters. A lawsuit filed in May indicated that Elon had requested a bathroom be constructed adjacent to his office to avoid disturbing his security personnel during nighttime visits.
Concerns about his safety were further evident during a controversy surrounding the tracking of his private jet in December. Journalists who shared links to the @ElonJet account on Twitter (formerly known as X) were temporarily banned, with Musk accusing them of harboring harmful intentions towards him.
As of now, Elon Musk has not responded to Insider’s request for comment, which was made outside of US working hours.
