Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, took a significant step in the ongoing case of Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, by issuing a production warrant on Friday, October 5, 2023. This warrant comes as Naira Marley faces charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) relating to conspiracy and credit card fraud, totaling 11 counts.
During the proceedings, the defendant’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, informed the court that Naira Marley was unable to attend due to his detainment by the police for questioning regarding the murder of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad. In light of this, Mr. Ojo requested an adjournment of the trial.
In response, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, requested that the court issue a production warrant to ensure Naira Marley’s presence at the next adjourned date. Granting the prosecution’s request, Judge Oweibo issued the production warrant against the defendant.
The judge subsequently adjourned the matter, setting the next trial date for October 30, 2023, when the trial will resume. This case serves as a significant development in the pursuit of justice and combatting internet fraud.
