“Donald Trump Announces Intention to Surrender in Atlanta, Expects Arrest at 7.30pm”
Former US President, Donald Trump, has revealed his plan to turn himself in at 7.30 pm in Atlanta, where he anticipates being arrested. Taking to his Truth Social platform, the Republican figure posted about his “arrest time,” restating debunked claims concerning the 2020 election. He criticized Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, labeling her a “radical left, lowlife.” Willis, who brought forth the charges against him, recently proposed a trial start date of October 23.
Expected to surrender at Fulton County jail, Trump faces charges alongside 18 co-defendants for allegedly attempting to overturn Georgia’s election results. He used strong language in his post, aiming to challenge the legitimacy of his arrest, citing a “perfect phone call” and a “rigged & stolen election.” His declaration follows the surrender of his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, to law enforcement.
Trump’s announcement arrived shortly after Willis requested a Georgia trial date of October 23 for him and his co-defendants, responding to a call for a swift trial by indicted lawyer Kenneth Chesebro.
The comprehensive 41-count indictment against Trump and his co-defendants marks his fourth and most recent legal action. The charges range from RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations), solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, perjury, and various other offenses. If found guilty on all charges, Trump could potentially face a 71-year prison sentence. Notably, state charges like these cannot be pardoned by a sitting president.
