Elon Musk announced that the ability to block other accounts on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, will be revoked. The block feature enabled users to restrict the visibility and interaction with their posts by others.
However, the option to block will remain functional for direct messages, or DMs, enabling users to maintain control over who can initiate private communication with them.
“Block is going to be deleted as a ‘feature’, except for DMs,” said Musk in a post to X on Friday, August 18 “It makes no sense.”
Instead of implementing the block feature, Musk explained in a later message that users will have the option to utilize the mute button. By muting an account, the posts from that user will not be displayed in one’s timeline, although they can still be accessed through links. Additionally, the muted user will retain the ability to view the content of the user who initiated the mute.
Several individuals expressed their dissent on X regarding this announcement. Check out the reactions provided below.
