Enyimba FC, a two-time CAF Champions League winner, asserts that they will not be intimidated by the formidable reputation of Wydad Athletic Club in tomorrow’s quarterfinal encounter of the inaugural African Football League (AFL). The match is scheduled for 7.00pm Nigerian time at the ‘Nest Of Champions’ in Uyo. Enyimba FC’s recent victory against Akwa United has provided a boost of morale as they prepare to face Wydad AC.
Eze Happy Ekwutoziam, Enyimba FC striker, confidently states that they possess the necessary abilities to overcome the Moroccan team in tomorrow’s match. In a statement to Enyimba media after Thursday’s training session, Ekwutoziam expresses the players’ understanding of the expectations placed upon them.
“While Wydad AC is a prominent club in Africa, we are not feeling pressured. We have been diligently working on our strategies to neutralize them and are fully aware of what is expected from us. Our fans, Nigerians, and supporters across West Africa have high hopes for us, and we are determined not to disappoint them.”
Ekwutoziam further adds, “We approach the game with the mindset of securing a victory, as the AFL league offers an excellent platform for us. As the inaugural edition, it presents a unique opportunity for many of us, and we are dedicated to making the most of it. We call upon our fans from all over the nation and Africa to come out in large numbers and rally behind us for a victorious outcome. We assure them that we will deliver our best performance.”
Chibueze Izuogu, the teenage sensation who impressed Enyimba fans during the NPFL league match against Akwa United, also emphasizes the importance of fan support. He urges the fans of the People’s Elephant to provide maximum support and cheer the team to victory.
“I am thrilled to be representing Nigeria’s club in this inaugural edition of the AFL league. I promise our beloved fans that we will give our all, as our mentality and confidence are extremely high within the camp. Everyone is putting in tremendous effort to achieve the required victory.”
Additionally, FIFA, the global governing body for football, will live stream the match to fans worldwide. The AFL is a newly established competition resulting from a collaboration between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA. The tournament’s debut edition will feature eight of the most renowned and successful teams from all African regional blocs.
