President Buhari has charged the nation’s security and intelligence agencies to expedite efforts towards the recovery of the 200 children kidnapped from an Islamic school in Niger State.

According to a statement released by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the President, who received briefing on the latest incident of school kidnapping, condemned as unfortunate the kidnapping of children from schools and urged all the agencies involved in the rescue operation to do their utmost in securing their immediate release.

He also directed that the concerned government agencies to extend possible support to the families of the kidnapped children.

On Sunday May 30, gunmen invaded Tegina community in Rafi Local Government Area, shot one person dead, and left one seriously injured as well as kidnapped an unconfirmed number of Islamiyya students and teachers from Salihu Tanko Islamic School alongside some passengers of a Sharon Bus travelling to Minna.

11 of the students have since been released by the kidnappers because they are young and couldn’t engage in long walk.
