A video capturing the unexpected moment of former Barcelona star Gerard Pique falling off the stage during an event has gained significant attention online.
Pique, who was present in Mexico to launch the King League Americas, a newly developed version of the seven-a-side competition he established in 2022, was engrossed in listening to voice messages on his phone when he suddenly took a dramatic tumble off the stage.
According to reports, he was making his way towards a fan displaying a shirt when he unexpectedly slipped into a gap beside the stage. Sources suggest that the cavity he fell into was over two meters deep, causing the 6ft 4″ defender to entirely vanish upon impact.
Fortunately, Pique emerged from the fall unharmed. Displaying his resilient sense of humor, he even joked about the incident, referring to it as a “magic trick” on social media.
Following the video’s virality across social media platforms, fans of Pique’s former partner, Shakira, began speculating that the mishap was a form of retribution for his contentious breakup with the Grammy-winning artist the previous year.
“Don’t disrespect the stage queen and then expect the stage to respect you,” one X user said, while another added, “Things haven’t been working out for him since Shakira got her hips outta there.”
