Olumide Akpata, the former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), has officially announced his candidacy for the Edo governorship election on the Labour Party (LP) platform.
Accompanied by a large group of enthusiastic youth supporters, Akpata made his declaration at the LP State secretariat, where he called for the support of both the people and party leaders to secure the LP ticket for the upcoming governorship election.
As a lawyer-turned-politician, Akpata expressed his disappointment with the current state of governance and politics, noting that the people have been neglected. He emphasized that his interest lies in the welfare of the people of Edo State and sees the Labour Party as the most people-oriented party in Nigeria.
“I have come here to express my interest and to carry the people along,” Akpata stated. He further promised to elevate the Labour Party to new heights if chosen as the LP candidate in the primary election.
In response, the leadership of the Labour Party in Edo, headed by state chairman Kelly Ogbaloi, assured all aspiring candidates a fair and equitable opportunity to compete in the governorship race. They encouraged Akpata to remain steadfast in his ambition to contest the upcoming gubernatorial election.
