The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has given his official approval for the appointment of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomosoland. The position had been left vacant following the passing of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III in December 2021, after a reign of 48 years at the age of 95.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, it was highlighted that the selection process adhered to the necessary legal procedures. Olayiwola conveyed the governor’s message of congratulations to the new Soun-elect, recognizing his elevation to the revered throne of his ancestors. The commissioner emphasized the significance of this esteemed position, as it enables the monarch-elect to foster unity, understanding, and tolerance among his people.
Furthermore, Olayiwola encouraged all residents of Ogbomoso to join hands with the new Soun in order to build upon the achievements of his predecessors and jointly advance the prosperity of the ancient city.
