A disturbing incident occurred along the Owo/Ifon/Benin Expressway in Ondo State, as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers forcibly abducted 25 members of the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Igan, Akure. The incident took place at approximately 3 pm on Friday near Elegbeka village while the victims were en route to Ifon for a funeral ceremony.
Confirming the distressing occurrence, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Public Relations Officer of Ondo State Police Command, conveyed the details via text message. She stated that the police were promptly informed about the incident, whereby an abandoned bus bearing the CAC logo was discovered by the roadside near Elegbeka.
In response, the anti-kidnapping Squad of the Command has been swiftly deployed to the area with the primary objective of rescuing the victims and apprehending the perpetrators. Unfortunately, the Owo/Ifon/Benin Expressway has recently become notorious for criminal activities, with numerous cases of kidnappings and armed robberies taking place along its stretch.
This unfortunate incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers prevalent in the region. It is worth noting that in November 2020, the area witnessed the tragic killing of Oba Israel Adeusi, a highly esteemed traditional ruler, while he was traveling from Akure to Ifon.
