Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Mr Olatunji Disu, has dismissed claims of an assassination attempt on Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker of the state House of Assembly. Disu addressed the media in Port Harcourt on Monday, stating that the police command has launched a thorough investigation into the claims made by the speaker. Ehie, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) representing Ahoada-East II, alleged that police officers in civilian clothes fired shots while trying to forcefully enter his private residence with the intent to assassinate him.
Disu, however, described the incident as a routine police patrol. The preliminary investigations conducted so far have not revealed any evidence of an assassination attempt on the speaker, according to the police commissioner.
Disu urged the factional speaker to officially file a complaint to aid the police in concluding their investigation into the alleged attack. The confusion over the Speaker’s Office arose following Ehie’s appointment by lawmakers allegedly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who had been embroiled in impeachment proceedings initiated by former speaker Martins Amaewhule, a close ally of a former governor
