The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, recently expressed his confidence that the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemicals Company Limited will be fully operational by the end of 2024. This announcement was made during his assessment of the progress of the ongoing quick-fix project at the refinery.
In a statement released by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Lokpobiri emphasized the significant level of progress witnessed during his inspection, fueling his confidence in meeting the 2024 deadline for the refinery’s restreaming.
Furthermore, Lokpobiri highlighted the government’s commitment to holding key players accountable for the rehabilitation process of the nation’s refineries. He also pledged the federal government’s support to ensure the timely delivery of the Kaduna Refinery project.
Lokpobiri emphasized the urgent need to restore the refinery’s operations, citing the integral role it plays in the nation’s economic prosperity and energy security. He stated that these factors are crucial for achieving sustainable development.
Mele Kyari, the group chief executive officer of NNPC Limited, echoed the minister’s sentiments, emphasizing that all efforts are being made to expedite the restoration of the refinery. Kyari stated that securing appropriate financing is a priority and expressed confidence in obtaining the necessary funds. He also mentioned the plan to initiate quick-fix activities to enable the refinery to process 60,000 barrels per day, thereby generating revenue for the plant. Additionally, efforts are underway to complete the Build, Operate, and Transfer pipeline project to ensure reliable delivery infrastructure.
Kyari revealed that the contractor has been mobilized to the refinery site, and the required equipment for the quick-fix activities is already in place.
