The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed his congratulations to President Bola Tinubu for his recent judicial vindication. In light of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal ruling that upheld Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, Keyamo has called on the opposition to “have sense” and embrace Tinubu’s government.
The PEPT dismissed the petitions filed by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, stating that they had no merit. The five-member panel unanimously upheld Tinubu’s electoral victory, with Chairman Justice Haruna Tsammani and members Justices Stephen Adah, Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Moses Ugo, and Abba Mohammed.
Taking to his Twitter page to react to the verdict, Keyamo expressed his satisfaction, stating that every issue he had raised during the campaigns and post-campaigns had been proven right. He emphasized the importance of standing up for one’s beliefs, even if they go against the temporary tide, as eventual vindication will come from posterity. Keyamo extended his congratulations to President Bola Tinubu for his judicial vindication and called on the opposition to reconsider their stance and embrace Tinubu’s government and national reconciliation.
However, the opposition candidates, Atiku and Obi, along with their parties, all rejected the verdict. The PDP stated that the judgment focused more on technicalities rather than delivering substantial justice. Peter Obi expressed concern that if obstacles continue to hinder the establishment of a case for those who contested the election, they may resort to unlawful means to seek justice, potentially eroding the electoral jurisprudence.
