In an effort to alleviate the impact of the petrol subsidy removal, the Sanwo-Olu administration introduced a 50% transport fare discount on all Public Transport Systems in Lagos State on August 2, 2023. However, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has recently announced the cancellation of this discount, with a return to the previous fare rates effective from November 5.
In a statement released on Saturday, November 4, LAMATA informed commuters of the upcoming change and advised them to prepare accordingly for the resumption of regular transport fare rates, as they were prior to the adjustment made in August.
This decision reflects a shift in the government’s transportation policy and calls for a reconsideration of budgetary constraints. Lagos residents are encouraged to take note of the cancellation and anticipate the reinstatement of pre-adjustment fare rates from Monday, November 6, 2023.
