During the 27th Pre-Convocation briefing held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’allah, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, announced a new policy requiring prospective students to undergo a drug test as a prerequisite for admission to the institution.
In his address, Prof. Na’allah emphasized the significance of assessing the drug status of students in order to provide appropriate support and intervention to those affected by substance abuse. To address this issue, the university has established a partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to facilitate the identification and rehabilitation of students struggling with drug addiction.
It is important to note that students found to be involved in drug abuse will not face immediate expulsion from the university. Instead, the institution is committed to offering rehabilitation services in collaboration with the NDLEA, with the ultimate aim of aiding their recovery and reintegrating them into the academic community.
This initiative serves as a proactive measure to address the growing concern of drug abuse among students, promoting a healthy and drug-free campus environment conducive to learning and personal development.
