A petroleum tanker explosion at Sandaji Filling Station in Lafia, Nasarawa State resulted in six individuals sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, October 9, 2023, around noon, involved a tanker delivering petroleum products to the Jos Road Lafia filling station.
Comfort Igwe, a pump attendant at the station, reported that the explosion took place while the tanker was in the process of unloading its cargo.
Fire service personnel, in collaboration with the Red Cross Society, police, and other security agencies, swiftly responded to the scene, successfully extinguishing the fire and restoring normalcy to the area.
According to an eyewitness, the explosion caused significant damage to property worth millions of naira at the filling station.
Members of staff from the filling station and officials from the Nasarawa State Fire Service were among those injured, and they are currently receiving treatment at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia.
Mr. Ombugu Joshua, the Acting Director of the Nasarawa State Fire Service, stated that the cause of the outbreak is yet to be determined.
He urged residents to promptly alert the fire service in the event of a fire outbreak to ensure a swift response.
