Napoli has firmly dismissed claims of any tension or strained relationship with their talented Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen. Club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis addressed the issue during an interview with Mediaset, stating that the Serie A champions would be open to selling Osimhen if he chooses not to sign a new contract.
Some speculations have arisen regarding the state of affairs between the club and Osimhen, potentially stemming from a TikTok video posted on the club’s official handle that appeared to mock the player. Nevertheless, both Napoli and Osimhen have released statements to address the matter.
In response to De Laurentiis’ interview, Napoli clarified, “President de Laurentiis never shared any negative comment about Victor. He simply mentioned that Osimhen changed his mind after verbally agreeing to a plan for a new deal.” Napoli then expressed hope that this is a temporary moment of reflection for Osimhen and stated their intention to discuss the future with his agent, Calenda, in the coming weeks.
Napoli firmly asserts that reports of a tense situation between the club and Osimhen are completely unfounded and inaccurate. They emphasize that there is no animosity or discord between the parties involved.
Currently, Osimhen is sidelined due to a thigh injury sustained while on international duty last weekend. He was substituted during the first half of the Super Eagles’ game against Saudi Arabia in Portugal.
Despite the recent developments, Osimhen has been in impressive form, having scored six goals in eight league appearances for Napoli this season. The club remains committed to supporting and nurturing his talent.
