The Quick Response Team of Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT successfully intercepted a significant amount of suspected Cannabis sativa at Eleko Beach, Lekki, Lagos. Acting on credible intelligence, the team confiscated 113 bags of Cannabis sativa at the beach. An additional 14 bags were also seized along the Badagry route. Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga, praised the team’s efforts and announced that all seized contraband items, totaling 127 bags, would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action. This operation reflects the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to combat illicit drug trafficking and protect the well-being of its citizens.
In a separate operation, the Nigerian Navy, Forward Operating Base (FOB), Igbokoda, Ondo State, intercepted and destroyed 15,775 litres of stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). Valued at N13,251,000, the operation was carried out by the Anti-Crude Oil Theft (COT) patrol team in Ilaje Local Council. The Executive Officer of the Base, Commander Humphrey Nnaji, reported that the team received intelligence on illegal bunkering and successfully tracked and intercepted a wooden boat laden with crude oil.
The crew abandoned the boat upon sighting the Naval personnel. The Base remains committed to its policing roles, particularly in combating crude oil theft and illegal bunkering in the region.
