The Omaluegwuoku Progressive Initiative (OPI) has thrown its support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the group believes in the implementation of democracy dividends. Led by Amb Ginika Tor, the group held a press conference in Abuja to address the alleged campaign of calumny by the Presidential candidates of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, against President Tinubu.
During the conference, the group urged Abubakar and Obi to await the outcome of their appeal filed against Tinubu at the Supreme Court, rather than engaging in activities that could distract the implementation of President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda. The OPI emphasized that Abubakar’s attempts to malign the President’s integrity also serve to tarnish Nigeria’s image on the international stage, as he attempts to convince people that President Bola Tinubu submitted a forged certificate to INEC.
Flanked by members of the group, Tor called on President Tinubu to consider including competent progressives who share his development ideology and have worked diligently to support his administration. This, according to Tor, is the surest way to achieve the targets outlined in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision, as these individuals are co-owners of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The group further stated, “We wish to clarify that this matter is currently under court review, and as such, we have refrained from making comments. However, we want to unequivocally debunk the falsehoods being spread by an elder statesman, who should prioritize patriotism and national interest over personal ambitions to become the leader of Nigeria.”
“To attempt to tarnish the character of Nigerians before the international community in the manner that is being done smacks of desperation.”
The OPI also took the opportunity to appeal to Nigerians to continue demonstrating their understanding and confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to address the country’s economic and security challenges. The group emphasized that President Tinubu is determined to tackle these issues at their roots, rather than applying superficial solutions.
“In the past four months, the Tinubu administration has been diligently laying the groundwork for a prosperous Nigeria, where the benefits of prosperity will extend to the grassroots and the common man. The process may be challenging, but the outcome will bring lasting relief and sustainable prosperity for all.”
The group concluded by urging the President to remain meticulous in transforming Nigeria’s national trajectory, particularly in terms of the economy, security, and political inclusion. They expressed hope that President Tinubu will continue to be a unifying and detribalized leader, ensuring equitable representation in future appointments to foster a sense of belonging and national loyalty. This, they believe, will ensure a unified and peaceful Nigeria for the benefit of all Nigerians.
