Starting from September 2023, individuals from Nigeria will be expected to make a payment of N107,500 for their academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations, a significant rise from the existing charges of N80,000 and N90,000. The IELTS exam holds substantial importance for acquiring specific visas in Western countries. The decision to increase the fee is attributed to the necessity of upholding the exceptional quality and standards of the testing process, ensuring a robust and reliable assessment for all candidates.
Prospective test takers were informed of this change through an official statement, underlining the new fee structure’s implementation and the reasons behind it. Aspiring candidates and stakeholders are urged to take note of this adjustment and prepare accordingly for the updated cost associated with the IELTS examination, which continues to play a pivotal role in international academic and immigration contexts.

A statement addressed to prospective candidates reads;
Dear valued Test Taker, We would like to inform you that effective from 1 September 2023, there will be a price increase for IELTS tests offered by the British Council.
“The new prices will be NGN 107,500 for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training, NGN 116.000 for UK Visas and Immigration and NGN 104,000 for Life Skills.
“The new prices are necessary to sustain the high-quality of standards for your testing experience. Thank you for choosing the British Council.”
