The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed his admiration for the impressive win of Nigerian-born boxer, Efe Ajagba, over Australian opponent Joe Goodall on Sunday.
Ajagba, a heavyweight contender in the World Boxing Council (WBC), delivered a stunning knockout to Goodall in the fourth round of their 10-round main event at the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Stateline, Nevada, United States of America. This victory served as a redemption for Ajagba, as he had previously lost to Goodall in a decision at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, on Monday in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori praised Ajagba for his well-deserved triumph against a formidable adversary. The Governor also commended the exceptional performance of Nigerian music star and former BBNaija winner, Michael Efe Ejeba, who accompanied Ajagba into the boxing ring on that fateful day.
Governor Oborevwori applauded the unified spirit and unwavering determination displayed by the two Deltan brothers, Efe Ajagba from Ughelli Kingdom and Efe Ejeba from Okpe Kingdom, in supporting each other and showcasing the indomitable Nigerian and Delta spirit.
In his words, Governor Oborevwori stated, “On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our illustrious son and boxing champion, Efe Ajagba, on the successful defense of his WBC silver heavyweight title. With this victory, Ajagba has solidified his position in the heavyweight division.”
The Governor praised Ajagba for his bravery and discipline both inside and outside the ring, while expressing his hope that Sunday’s achievement would serve as a stepping stone towards Ajagba’s ultimate goal of becoming the undisputed World Heavyweight Boxing champion.
“It is my belief that Ajagba’s accomplishments on the world stage will inspire aspiring boxing professionals to believe in themselves and strive for victory,” he added.
Governor Oborevwori concluded by extending his best wishes to both Ajagba and Efe Ejeba, hoping for a bright future and successful careers in boxing and music, respectively. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to nurturing the talents of youths for the overall development of Delta State and Nigeria.
