The Nigerian national team, also known as the Super Eagles, is set to welcome back several influential players, including Kenneth Omeruo, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Alex Iwobi, and Terem Moffi. These players will be joining the team as they prepare for two international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in Portugal later this month.
In a statement released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Head Coach Jose Santos Peseiro explained that these strategic selections have been made to fine-tune the squad in preparation for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
During last month’s 2023 AFCON qualifier in Uyo, Omeruo, Osayi-Samuel, Iwobi, and Moffi were unable to participate in the team’s victory against Sao Tome and Principe. Their return to the squad is seen as a boost, injecting both experience and dynamism into the team, and Peseiro hopes that this will further enhance the overall cohesion of the squad.
Peseiro also expressed his continued faith in goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Adebayo Adeleye, and Olorunleke Ojo, while providing an opportunity for uncapped defender Jordan Torunnarigha to showcase his skills.
The upcoming friendly matches against Saudi Arabia’s Green Falcons and Mozambique’s Mambas are scheduled for October 13th and 16th respectively, in Portimão, Portugal.
