The Election Petitions Tribunal, which convened in Jos, the capital city of Plateau State, has removed Mr. Moses Sule from his position as Speaker of the state House of Assembly.
Mr. Sule had contested the election in Mikang State Constituency as a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Daniel Nanlong, filed a petition with the tribunal, requesting to be declared the rightful winner of the election. Nanlong’s argument was based on the assertion that Sule did not meet the qualifications to run for the election and had not adhered to the electoral laws.
In a ruling delivered yesterday, Justice Mohammed Bello Tukur upheld Nanlong’s argument and directed INEC to retrieve the Certificate of Return from Sule, awarding it to Nanlong as the duly elected and valid candidate.
