The Kebbi State Police Command has seized Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) valued at over N600 million and 7,500 live cartridges in Tsamiya Maje, Baguda Local Government Area of the state. According to SP Nafiu Abubakar, the command’s spokesperson, this information was disclosed on September 15, 2023, when four suspects were apprehended in connection with the incident.
The suspects were paraded at the Command’s Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) explained that officers from the Border Drill unit intercepted two trucks carrying 4,927 and 4,906 consignments of Cannabis Sativa along with 7,500 live cartridges.
The arrested individuals include Shola Adeyemi from Akure, Ondo State, Rasak Agbola from Oyo State, Emmanuel Chukuma from Abia State, and Kanta Bisa from Ghana. During interviews with Radio Nigeria, Kanta Bisa and Shola Adeyemi stated that they loaded the consignments in Ghana and Benin Republic, respectively, with the intention of transporting them to Lagos, Nigeria.
The suspects claimed that they had passed through eight security checkpoints at the Nigerian border before being intercepted at Tsamiya Maje in Bagudo Local Government Area, Kebbi State. The police spokesperson mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, as some of the suspects are still at large.
