Olafuro Peterside, a Father of Three, Killed by Stray Bullet Allegedly Fired by Policeman during Family Outing in Rivers State
In a heart-wrenching incident, Olafuro Peterside, a father of three, met an untimely end after reportedly being struck by a stray bullet from a police officer belonging to the Police Mobile Force, 43 Squadron in Gombe State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the officer, who was on a special assignment in the area, was at a popular bar in Elekahia, Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State, along with a colleague. It was during this time that Olafuro Peterside was enjoying precious moments with his family.

Chaos ensued when cries of ‘armed robbers’ echoed through the air, prompting the officer to fire a shot into the sky in an attempt to scare off the supposed robbers. Tragically, that single shot allegedly ended the life of the unsuspecting father.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said
“Yes, the command is aware of the incident. From the information at my disposal, the man was with his family. There was an incident of robbery in the area, so the policemen shot into the air in response to the alarm raised. So I think a stray bullet hit the man”.
While extending her condolences to the family of the deceased, the police spokeswoman said the erring officer and his colleague were already undergoing interrogation.
