A picture of an Igbo man being married to his foreign sweetheart at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry in Lagos has sparked a range of opinions.
This is in response to a controversial tweet sent out recently by a certain Mazi Uchenna Odu, who urged his fellow Igbo men to shun judicial weddings at all costs.
In light of Nigerian businesswoman May Edochie’s recent filing for divorce from her spouse, actor Yul Edochie, he offered this counsel. She also requested a restraining order to prevent him from going near their marital residence.

The tweet quickly went viral online and sparked massive criticisms from netizens.
Days after the trending tweet, a different Twitter user praised an Igbo man for getting married to a foreign woman at the Ikoyi wedding registry.
He praised the individual for securing a bright future for himself and called him “hardworking.”
“Ndu nwoke esika.. Okwanu ka umuazi weelu lie nri.. Nwee ezigbote future.. Nwoke na agba mbo nobi small… Chukwu zoba anyi,” he wrote in Igbo.

Many people were offended by the message and claimed that Igbo men had double standards, alluding to Uchenna’s dislike of court weddings.
