One of the five abducted female students from Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State has been freed after enduring 50 days in captivity. The young woman was rescued from the kidnappers’ hideout and subsequently transported to Kuncin Kalgo, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara. From there, she was safely returned to Katsina on Sunday.
Although she is currently in stable condition, she is receiving necessary medical attention. Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Aliyu Abubakar-Sadiq, confirmed this positive development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina.
It is important to note that the girls had been held captive since October 3, 2023, when armed gunmen invaded their rented apartment situated behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School, Dutsinma, around 2 a.m., and unleashed indiscriminate gunfire. At the time, the police had announced the arrest of a man suspected to be an informant to the terrorists. However, there have been no further updates regarding the progress of the investigation.
