Nigeria’s esteemed representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, was drawn into a formidable group during yesterday’s draw in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Nigerian club will face Tunisia’s Club Africain, a seasoned contender in continental competitions who clinched the CAF Champions League title (formerly the African Cup of Champions Clubs) in 1991. Additionally, they will compete against Ghana’s Dream FC and APC Lobito from Angola. This challenging lineup places Rivers United FC in Group C, where the top two teams will qualify for the quarterfinals after six rounds of home-and-away fixtures.
Group A features Algeria’s USM Alger alongside Al Hilal from Libya, South Africa’s SuperSport United, and Modern Future from Egypt, all vying for a place in the quarterfinals.
Group B consists of Zamalek from Egypt, Sagrada Esperanca of Angola, SOAR from Guinea, and Abu Salem from Libya.
Group D will witness competition between Morocco’s RS Berkane, who eliminated Nigeria’s Bendel Insurance in the qualifying rounds, Diables Noirs from Congo, Mali’s Stade Malien, and Sekhukhune United from South Africa, with only two spots available for advancement.
