In the midst of the controversy surrounding the procurement of foreign luxury vehicles by federal lawmakers, Senator Sunday Karimi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, has elaborated on the reasons behind their choice of a foreign car brand over Nigerian-made vehicles.
During an interview on Channels Television, Senator Karimi emphasized that they selected foreign-made Sport Utility Vehicle (SUVs) Land Cruisers and Prados due to their renowned “quality and durability.”
Representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Karimi stated, “Today, we decided for Toyota because Toyota has a name and a longstanding name for quality and durability…As our local manufacturing companies develop, we are going to patronise them. We need the vehicles for oversights, to travel all over our constituencies.”
Acknowledging the poor state of Nigerian roads, the senator highlighted the pressing need for reliable vehicles. However, he expressed optimism for the future, stating, “In future, as Nigerian manufacturing sector develops, we will (patronise them).”
