Renowned Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye, professionally known as Mr. P, has expressed his disapproval of a video featuring Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma, announcing his intention to assist 4,000 indigenes of Imo state in relocating abroad.
During a campaign event preceding the upcoming governorship election in Imo state, Governor Hope declared his plans to facilitate job opportunities for the selected individuals in Europe and Canada by December 2023. He further stated that the state government would sponsor their airfare to these countries, leading to a jubilant response from the crowd.
In his words,
“I have gone further to negotiate with the European Union government and Canadian government. They are sending us special areas of skill which our youths will also learn and by December this year, 4000 Imo youths will be employed in Europe.’ Once the employment letter drops, the governor will pay for your air ticket.”
This promise didn’t sit well with Peter Okoye of the PSquare music group, and he took to his Instagram Stories to describe it as “ridiculous.”
He added that he finds it absurd that a governor is promising to take his people abroad for better jobs instead of creating job opportunities in his state.
The 41-year-old singer wrote,
“4000 Imo youths will be employed in Europe! And they are jubilating! Eiya!
It is well! APC
A Governor who is supposed to create an enabling environment and job opportunities for the state he’s governing is promising to take the citizens outside the country for jobs!
This is so ridiculous.
Dis politicians no rate us at all! Even Hope is Hopeless! Shame”
