A former Special Adviser to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, has raised concerns about the possibility of Atiku being expelled from the party. Umar Ardo, the aide, suggested that this could happen if Atiku does not abandon his presidential ambition. Ardo made these remarks in a statement, highlighting the fact that several PDP governors have already distanced themselves from Atiku.
The discord between Atiku and the party’s governors became more evident after Atiku criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to affirm President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election.
Despite indicating that he was finished with this aspect of the job, Atiku vowed to remain in the political arena. However, Ardo believes that the divergence in positions between Atiku and the PDP governors suggests an eventual implosion, with Atiku having to choose between stepping down, leaving the party voluntarily, or facing expulsion.
