In a meticulously planned operation, the Air Component and ground troops of Operation HADIN KAI joined forces to carry out a precision-guided airstrike today, resulting in the elimination of a significant number of ISWAP terrorists in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.
The decision to launch these successful airstrikes was prompted by reports indicating a substantial influx of ISWAP terrorists into Nigeria through the Nigeria-Niger border along the Komadugu-yobe River. This group of terrorists, comprised of both local and foreign fighters, has been wreaking havoc in communities along the border region.
According to Zagazola Makama, a respected Security Intelligence analyst, the terrorists’ movements were closely monitored and tracked to a remote location near ASAGAR village, where they converged for a planned attack. The acquired targets were subsequently subjected to aggressive bombardment, resulting in the destruction of a significant number of terrorists.
Ground assessments have revealed that several ISWAP unit commanders and high-value fighters were neutralized, while many others sustained serious injuries. Moreover, this successful offensive marks the fourth major operation against ISWAP and Boko Haram positions in the North East over the past seven days.
Makama further explains that these military airstrikes and ground offensives have forced ISWAP/Boko Haram to adapt new tactics, including conducting attacks on foot, abandoning the use of hilux trucks, and dispersing their fighters into smaller units and diverse locations to minimize casualties from airstrikes and artillery shelling.
Furthermore, these terrorist groups have shifted their focus towards vulnerable local farming communities lacking adequate security presence. Makama emphasizes the importance of strong security measures to protect these communities from future attacks.
The recent NAF airstrikes in Borno have significantly weakened the ISWAP terrorists, further degrading their capabilities and disrupting their operations. The collaborative efforts of the Air Component and ground troops of Operation HADIN KAI have demonstrated the commitment of Nigerian forces to safeguarding the region and eliminating the threat posed by these extremist groups.
