KAA Gent striker Gift Orban, who also plays for the Super Eagles, has received a two-game suspension and a €1,500 fine for his aggressive behavior.
Gent officially confirmed Orban’s suspension and fine on their social media platform.
The 21-year-old was shown a straight red card in the 44th minute for violent conduct against an Eupen player during a match on Sunday.
Despite Orban’s early exit, Gent managed to turn the game around from a 1-0 deficit to secure a 2-1 victory.
In an official statement, Gent stated, “KAA Gent has chosen to accept the proposed suspension for Gift Orban.”
“The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office requested a two-match suspension, one of which was postponed. This means that Orban is suspended against Antwerp on Wednesday.
“Orban received a red card in the match against Eupen after he pushed an opponent. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office ruled that it involved “physical misconduct”, and more specifically “a brutal push with high intensity”.
“For Orban, it is the first red card in 57 professional matches. According to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, that clean criminal record played to his advantage.
“A minimum suspension of two matches—being the lower limit as determined in the indicative table – is appropriate. Furthermore, a fine of 1,500 euros was imposed on the player.“
Orban has scored two goals in six games in the Belgian league this season.
Despite joining Gent on loan in January, he scored 15 goals in 16 league appearances.
