DAR ES SALAAM, November 18, 2022 (Reuters) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dar Es Salaam has confirmed the death of a Tanzanian citizen who went missing during the October 7 raid by Palestinian Hamas militants in southern Israel. The ministry also reported that efforts are ongoing to locate the second missing Tanzanian, Joshua Mollel.
Late on Friday, a statement was released by the ministry, notifying the family of Clemence Mtenga, a farming student, about his unfortunate demise. Discussions are underway to repatriate his body. Israeli officials have not yet commented on the matter.
Following the raid that led to the abduction of approximately 240 individuals into the Gaza Strip by Hamas, resulting in the deaths of around 1,200 civilians and soldiers, a six-week-long war with Israel ensued. Numerous individuals remained unaccounted for immediately after the incident.
The specific location where Mtenga’s remains were found has not been disclosed at this time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that he was one of 260 young people who were in Israel for agricultural studies.
