On Wednesday, the Labour Party (LP) made the decision to reject the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Court regarding their presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
The Presidential Election Petition Court dismissed the LP’s allegation that the 2023 presidential election was rigged in favor of President Bola Tinubu. The court, through Justice Abba Mohammed, ruled that the LP and Mr. Peter Obi failed to provide credible evidence to support their claim of manifest corrupt practices during the February 25 election.
Additionally, the court also dismissed the allegation that President Bola Tinubu had been convicted on a drug trafficking charge in the United States of America (USA). The court clarified that the $460,000 fine imposed on Tinubu in the US was a result of a civil matter.
In response to the judgement, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, expressed disappointment and dissatisfaction, stating that justice was not served. He emphasized that the judgement did not align with the law and the desires of the people.
Ifoh further highlighted the party’s determination to continue fighting for democracy and the will of the people. He commended the party’s legal team for their relentless efforts in exposing the flaws within the system.
The Labour Party plans to consult with their lawyers and present a detailed position after obtaining the Certified True Copy. They urge all supporters of democracy to remain focused and hopeful, emphasizing the possibility of a new Nigeria.
