On Monday evening, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership opted not to participate in a meeting called by the federal government to address concerns related to the impending two-day warning strike scheduled to commence on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
The gathering had been organized by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, who had previously appealed to organized labor to find a solution to prevent the imminent strike.

Many of the NLC’s affiliated groups have already completed their preparations for the warning strike.
Conversely, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), under the leadership of its national president, Festus Osifo, did attend the closed-door meeting with the Federal government.
Last week, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had announced its intentions to initiate a two-day warning strike starting on Tuesday, September 5, as a protest against the Federal Government’s failure to address the challenges faced by Nigerians regarding the removal of fuel subsidies.
