The palace of the Olu of Ogunmakin town in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba James Sodiya, has fallen victim to a robbery in which his crown and staff of office were stolen.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday, October 12, when the palace of the late monarch, who had passed away approximately two months ago, was forcefully entered by unknown individuals.
Confirming the incident, Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson in the state, shared that three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the crime.
According to Odutola, “On the 12th of October 2023, we received intelligence from the palace of his Royal Majesty late Ogunmakin, stating that Amusa Kazeem, Oke Oladipupo, and Johnson Oluwole conspired and stole the royal crown and the staff of office two months after the demise of the King of Ogunmakin.”
She further explained that the suspects gained entry into the house at approximately 2:00 hours by accessing the key, which was under the custodianship of the person responsible for safeguarding the late king’s property. The stolen items, the royal crown, and the staff of office, hold immense cultural and historical significance and their unauthorized removal is regarded as an abomination.
