A family struggling in the aftermath of the Surfside condo collapse in Miami, Florida has been given a glimmer of hope in the midst of tragedy as their beloved cat, missing since the night of the disaster two weeks ago, has been found alive

Two members of the Gonzalez family, Angela and Deven who lived in unit 904 of the Champlain Towers South, are at Jackson Memorial Hospital recuperating. Both Angela Gonzalez and her daughter Deven survived the nine-story fall but Edgar Gonzalez is among the missing.

As of Monday, July 12, the official death of the building crash toll stands at 90 people, with 39 still unaccounted for.

Their cat, Binx had also been missing since the June 24 collapse until he was discovered at the collapse site and brought back to his family.

“That’s actually Deven’s cat, so I’m sure she’s going to be over the moon knowing that they found her cat,” Maria Gaspari, a family friend, told WVSN.

“I just can’t believe it. I just couldn’t believe it when we received the confirmation. This is a miracle for the whole Surfside community.”

According to reports, Kitty Campus, Operation PAW, and SoBe cats worked together to save Binx and reunite him with his family.

Miami Mayor Daniella Levine Cava tweeted about the good news.

“After 16 long and incredibly difficult days, I’m able to share a small piece of good news — Binx from Champlain Towers South has been found,” she wrote. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of our community to the team who played a role in reuniting him with his family.
