The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has unveiled the Federal Government’s plan to enhance funding for the education sector by 25%. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the 2021 and 2022 Nigeria Annual Education Conference (NAEC) held in Abuja on Monday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
During his speech, Prof. Mamman emphasized his administration’s determination to bridge the gap between education policy statements and their tangible outcomes. Furthermore, he revealed that President Tinubu has issued a directive to ensure the enrollment of 10.5 million out-of-school children once his tenure concludes.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Prof. Mamman stated, “We have a significant distance to cover. Our current policies are failing to provide the necessary education to all children in the country, and it is imperative that we take action on the ground rather than merely making policy declarations.”
He added, “Our objective is to bridge the gap between policy statements and the realization of positive outcomes. By doing so, we aim to equip these children with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their personal and professional lives. It is our firm belief that everyone deserves to live a life of dignity and contribute to the well-being of their families.”
Prof. Mamman also emphasized the importance of adequately equipping basic and secondary schools, highlighting that such investments foster creativity and research from early stages of education.
