The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended an 18-year-old housewife, Khadija Adamu, for the tragic death of her 5-year-old stepdaughter in the Kandahar area of the state.
During a press conference at the Bauchi police headquarters on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, revealed the distressing details of the incident.
CP Muhammed disclosed that Khadija was taken into custody after a report was filed by Abdulaziz Adamu, who stated that the suspect had brutally assaulted Hafsat Garba, resulting in severe injuries that ultimately led to her demise, as confirmed by a medical professional at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH).
The Commissioner further elaborated that the suspect did not offer any substantial resistance and readily admitted to the crime.
“On 28/9/2023 at about 2125hrs, Abdulaziz Adamu, a 38-year-old resident of the Kandahar area in Bauchi, reported to A’ Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same day at approximately 1600hrs, Khadija Adamu, an 18-year-old individual residing at the same address, physically assaulted her stepdaughter named Hafsat Garba, aged 5 years. Consequently, the victim sustained grievous injuries,” stated CP Muhammed.
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of diligent detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly responded to the scene, transferring the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for urgent medical attention. Tragically, the attending medical doctor certified the child’s untimely demise.”
“Preliminary investigation findings indicate that the suspect subjected the victim to physical abuse due to an alleged mishap that resulted in the spoiling of her clothing. The victim suffered various degrees of injuries.”
“During the course of interrogation, the suspect openly confessed to committing the alleged offense, providing little resistance or argument.”
“Investigation into this tragic incident is currently ongoing, and upon its completion, the suspect will be appropriately charged in a court of law for her proven offense.”
