Several individuals are feared dead in the wake of a devastating electric transformer explosion that occurred in the Gada Biu community of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau state. The tragic incident took place on Saturday, October 14, at approximately 3 am, resulting in the destruction of residential buildings and shops in the vicinity. Eyewitnesses from the community have confirmed this horrific occurrence to the press in Jos.
According to reports, the transformer detonated, igniting a fire that rapidly engulfed the surrounding structures and claimed the lives of numerous victims. One resident of Kabong village in the Gada Biu community expressed the heart-wrenching reality of the situation, stating, “The people of Kabong village in the Gada Biu community woke up this morning around 3 a.m. to mourn the death of four persons. They were electrocuted due to an electric transformer explosion in the area. I understand that more others were trapped in the fire, and we don’t know their fate now.”
The Plateau State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, has acknowledged the fire incident and initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to this tragic event. Alfred also mentioned that some individuals sustained injuries and have been transported to the hospital for medical attention. In response, the police force has deployed its officers and personnel to the affected area to expedite the investigation process.
This shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from electrical malfunctions.
